Using an app on a mobile device
Mobile access combines software, network and account security. Before signing in, make sure the device is under your control, the operating system is reasonably current and the connection is one you trust.
An app can be convenient, but convenience should not override source verification or permission review.
- Use a device screen lock.
- Keep the operating system and browser updated.
- Review app permissions after installation.
- Avoid storing sensitive recovery information in screenshots.
Browser access versus installed app
Some users prefer browser access because it reduces installed software; others may prefer an app offered by an external service. The safer option is the one you can verify, keep updated and use without weakening device protections.
